Dr Michael Zhao is a dual-fellowship-trained Interventional Pain Specialist with extensive experience in managing complex acute and chronic pain conditions. He earned his MBBS with a specialisation in Anaesthesiology from Tianjin Medical University in 2005 before relocating to Australia in 2006. Since then, he has advanced his clinical training across Emergency Medicine, General Practice, and Pain Medicine.
Dr Zhao holds a Diploma of Emergency Medicine (ACEM) and is a Fellow of both the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP-RG) and the Faculty of Pain Medicine, Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FFPMANZCA). He is formally endorsed by the FPM Executive Committee for procedural competency in interventional pain management.
With a strong foundation in anaesthesiology and procedural medicine, Dr Zhao offers a comprehensive range of fluoroscopy- and ultrasound-guided interventions, including radiofrequency ablation, epidural and sympathetic blocks, and neuromodulation therapies such as spinal cord and peripheral nerve stimulation.
Dr Zhao is passionate about providing patient-centred, evidence-based care, integrating interventional techniques within a holistic, multidisciplinary framework. His clinical interests include Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), spinal pain, and the integration of cognitive-behavioural strategies into chronic pain management.
Known for his procedural precision and compassionate approach, Dr Zhao remains committed to ongoing education, research, and collaboration to enhance outcomes for patients living with persistent pain.
